Slide projection (2011-2022), anodised aluminium plates, welded metal construction, Inkjet prints

Looking at my Brother is an ongoing project between Slagman and his two younger brothers. From childhood to adolescence to adulthood, the series contains images that show both Mat and Jonah, and their vulnerable relationship to photography and time. The work at display shows a sequence of studio photographs that Slagman and his brother produced one week prior to Mats complicated spine surgery. While the studio photographs have been created within less than an hour, the slide projection on their back shows th brothers growing up over a timespan of more than 12 years. The use of black and white photography emphasizes the timelessness of the images, while the slide projection offers a dynamic, shifting backdrop that evokes the ongoing nature of personal growth and transformation.
