These photographs were made in a mode of pre-sentiment, arguing for the transiency of human relationships and the ephemeral act of making a photograph itself. What they mean, is a result of
the viewers process of looking, as much as it is determined by what is displayed. Slagman is specifically interested in visually anticipating absence through photographic solitude.

Reconfiguring photographs made in different contexts and times is a key element. Understanding, that a photograph has no narrative, but can have many readings depending on their contextualization is a driving force. Presented are motifs of the mundane, situations silently observed showing barely nothing.
The curtain inside a hotel room, coloured letters on a schoolyard, kids playing, exploring. Fragile moments, observed with tenderness, a certain melody if one carefully listens. Finding meaning in a world in which most seems meaningless is one particular aim in this work.
